Injuries Broke the Slate Open. Here's Who Wins.

Six players absorbed redistributed minutes tonight across three games. The model flagged them all. Here's how to build around the chaos on a Friday slate that got a lot more interesting after the injury wire.

00 · THE SLATE

Three games tonight, first tip at 7:30 PM ET. That's a small slate — 65 players in the pool — and that matters for lineup construction more than anything else we'll say here. Small slates concentrate everything. Chalk feels chalky because there are fewer hiding spots. Differentiating via the injury news is often the only real edge available, and tonight this slate handed it out generously.

The matchups: PHX hosts CON in what shapes up as the highest-volume game on the board. DAL takes on GS, a matchup the model likes for the Dallas side. And ATL visits WSH in the game that got hit hardest by the injury wire — multiple Atlanta players absorbed minutes, which is both a roster-construction headache and, if you saw it in time, a lineup gift.

The model is running 65 players through a blend of exponentially weighted per-minute rates and opponent-defense and pace context, then running 5,000 Monte Carlo draws per player to generate floor, median, and ceiling. The method beats both naive baselines out of sample. Tonight, the injury-redistribution layer is doing the most work. Follow that thread.

01 · THE ANCHORS

The model's top projected players tonight, with salary, floor, median, and ceiling. These are the studs you build around.

Paige BueckersDAL v GS$10.5K3335.146.03.34

The lead story is Alyssa Thomas at $11,800 — she's the top median projection on the slate at 39.9, with a ceiling of 53.1, and her floor of 27.2 is the kind of number that lets you sleep at night in cash. The salary is real but the value is there: 3.38 points per $1,000 puts her right in line with plays that cost $2,000 less.

Right behind her, and frankly the more interesting conversation tonight, is Kelsey Plum at $10,000. Her 39.1 projection carries a ceiling of 53.9 — the highest on the entire slate — and her value score of 3.91 per $1K makes her the most efficient stud available. She's also min-bumped, meaning an injury has redistributed minutes her way. We'll get into that in the injury section, but understand what it means for her anchor viability: she's projecting 36 minutes at a salary that hasn't fully priced in the role expansion. That's the most compelling stud on a three-game slate.

Jessica Shepard at $11,100 projects 37.8 with a 51.1 ceiling — a legitimate GPP ceiling game against GS. Angel Reese at $11,700 is the classic high-floor stud; her 24.4 floor is as safe as it gets at this projection level. Rhyne Howard and Paige Bueckers round out the tier — Howard as a min-bumped play we'll feature shortly, Bueckers as the matchup-driven option in the DAL-GS game.

02 · THE VALUE

On a small slate, value plays do more than save salary — they let you double up at the premium spots. Tonight's value board is genuinely deep, and a lot of that is driven by the injury news reshaping roles across the ATL and PHX rosters.

Jordin Canada ↑ATL v WSH$9.3K3433.344.23.58
Jessica ShepardDAL v GS$11.1K3237.851.13.41

Start at the top of the value board and work down. Plum leads it at 3.91 per $1K — we've covered why she's here. The three ATL players below her are the real discovery: Allisha Gray at $8,600 projects 31.5 with a ceiling of 42.9, at 3.66 per $1K. Rhyne Howard at $9,900 projects 35.9 at 3.63 per $1K. Jordin Canada at $9,300 projects 33.3 at 3.58 per $1K. All three are min-bumped. If you can identify which ones absorbed the most meaningful usage from the injury, you're stacking ATL in a way that the field largely hasn't priced. That's the definition of tournament differentiation on a small slate.

Shepard at 3.41 per $1K is worth repeating in the value section because at $11,100 she functions as a value stud — you're paying near-max salary but getting near-max production. On a small slate that isn't the worst place to land.

Then there's Haley Jones at $3,000, projecting 13.2 with a ceiling of 25.2. The floor of 2.3 is a real number — this is a volatile play, and the Monte Carlo is telling you that honestly. But at minimum salary, Jones is the pivot that frees up everything else in your lineup. If she hits anywhere near her ceiling, you win the slate. If she misses, you had the rest of the roster to carry it. That's how you use a $3K play — eyes open on the variance, salary savings fully deployed elsewhere.

03 · THE INJURY EDGE

This is where the model does its most distinctive work. When a player is ruled out, the model redistributes their minutes across their teammates — position-aware and minute-conserving — and reprices those beneficiaries before you see any of the projections above. Tonight there are six players flagged as min-bumped across two games. That's a lot of movement on a three-game slate.

Allisha Gray ↑ATL v WSH$8.6K3531.542.93.66
Olivia Nelson-Ododa ↑CON v PHX$9.2K3031.345.13.40

In the PHX-CON game: Kelsey Plum and Kahleah Copper both absorbed minutes following an injury. Plum's case is the headline — 36 projected minutes at $10,000 with a 53.9 ceiling. Copper at $9,700 is quieter: 35.9 minutes, 32.6 median, 45.4 ceiling, 3.36 per $1K. Copper is the kind of secondary beneficiary who pays off in tournament lineups when the chalk is stacking Plum and Thomas together. On the CON side, Olivia Nelson-Ododa at $9,200 is projecting 29.8 minutes and 31.3 points with a 45.1 ceiling — a min-bumped CON play who gives you a pivot out of the Phoenix-heavy construction everyone else is running.

In the ATL-WSH game, it's almost a full role shuffle: Rhyne Howard, Jordin Canada, and Allisha Gray all have minutes bumped by the same injury event. Three players from the same team absorbing usage at the same time is unusual, and it's the kind of redistribution that creates roster-building advantages that don't last long once the broader field catches up. Howard at 36 minutes and Canada at 34.4 minutes are both projecting genuine star-level floors. Gray's 34.6 minutes at $8,600 is the quietest of the three and arguably the most interesting value gap.

The honest caveat: min-bump plays carry wider variance than a player with a stable role. The floors on all six of these players reflect that — the Monte Carlo samples from their own measured volatility, not an assumed steady state. The opportunity is real; the spread is real too.

04 · THE BUILD

Small slate, significant injury news, three distinct games. The construction conversation comes down to one core question: do you game-stack the ATL-WSH chaos, or anchor in PHX-CON and look for value everywhere else?

The case for the ATL stack: Howard, Canada, and Gray are all min-bumped and all projecting 34-plus minutes. Stacking two or three of them together means you're correlated with a role expansion that the field may not have fully accounted for. Add Reese as the floor anchor in the same game and you have four players from one matchup — which is aggressive on a three-game slate but defensible when the minutes story is this clear.

The case for anchoring PHX-CON: Thomas leads the slate in median projection. Plum is the top ceiling play at the best value score among studs. Copper adds a third min-bumped PHX piece. Nelson-Ododa gives you a CON pivot who correlates with a competitive, high-possession game on the other side of the matchup. A PHX-CON game stack is the more obvious build tonight, which means it carries more chalk risk in GPP formats.

The differentiated GPP build threads both: Thomas and Plum as the PHX anchor pair — their combined salary is $21,800 — then Howard or Canada from the ATL stack, Gray as value, and Jones at $3,000 to make the salary work. That gives you exposure to both injury-redistribution events, a top-ceiling play at efficient pricing, and the minimum-salary safety valve that has a legitimate 25.2 ceiling if ATL runs.

In cash formats, the priority shifts to floor. Thomas's 27.2 floor and Reese's 24.4 are the two most reliable numbers on the board. Plum's 23.3 is acceptable but wider. Shepard's 24.1 against GS rounds out a cash-viable core from DAL. Jones is a GPP-only proposition — 2.3 floor is not a cash play.

05 · THE BOTTOM LINE

The honest read on tonight: this is an injury-news slate, and the model's walk-forward validated redistribution logic — which beats the naive baselines out of sample, with a mean absolute error of 7.00 versus 7.09 — identified six min-bumped players before the lineup clock runs out. Three of them are on ATL, two on PHX, one on CON. Every floor and ceiling figure reflects each player's own measured historical volatility, not a clean projection with manufactured confidence bands. Plum is the most efficient stud on the board. Thomas is the safest anchor. The ATL role shuffle creates differentiation in GPP formats if you're willing to bet that the field underweights a three-player minute redistribution in the same game. And Jones at $3,000 is the high-variance, salary-freeing pivot that either wins the lineup or loses it cleanly — no in-between. On a three-game slate, that's exactly the kind of deliberate choice you should be making. Good luck tonight.
