An Injury Wave Just Reshaped This Entire Slate

Five players with bumped minutes, a Chicago value stack hiding in plain sight, and A'ja Wilson projecting 55.7 with a 70.3 ceiling. Here's how to build tonight.

00 · THE SLATE

Three games tonight, first tip at 7:00 PM ET. Las Vegas hosts Atlanta, New York hosts Seattle, and Chicago hosts Phoenix. Sixty-two players in the pool. That's a manageable slate — tight enough that construction decisions actually matter, wide enough that you're not just running the same six names everyone else is.

The shape of the night is pretty clear before you even open the projections: injuries have redistributed minutes across at least five players in the model, and that news edge is the dominant story. The model is seeing elevated usage from players who wouldn't normally be in your conversation at these salary levels. When the minutes pool gets reshuffled and the salary site hasn't fully caught up, that's where lineups get made.

The NY-SEA matchup is loaded at the top with two studs who both had minutes bumped. The CHI-PHX game has the deepest value stack on the slate, almost entirely driven by the injury redistribution. And LV-ATL features the highest-projected player on the board. There's something to build with in all three games, which on a three-game slate is genuinely good news.

01 · THE ANCHORS

The stud tier is anchored by players you know, but the reasons to roster them tonight are sharper than usual.

A'ja Wilson leads the board at 55.7 projected — and her minutes were bumped by an injury. She's already the best player in the league; now she's getting more run against ATL. The ceiling here is 70.3, which is a tournament-winning number. The floor is 39.2. That's the range. You pay $12,500 for it, which works out to 4.46 points per $1K — unusually efficient for a player at this salary.

Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones are both on NY against SEA, and both had minutes bumped by injuries. Stewart at $11,700 projects 45.2 with a 58.0 ceiling; JJ at $9,900 projects 42.3 with a 59.1 ceiling. The fact that JJ's ceiling actually shades Stewart's at $1,800 less salary is the most interesting construction note in this tier. That spread matters when you're trying to get to multiple anchors in the same lineup.

Kamilla Cardoso at $9,200 is the stud-tier player who looks like a value play. She projects 44.4 — more than Stewart — at 4.83 points per $1K, which is the best efficiency number in this section. Her minutes were bumped too. She's worth anchoring around, not just rostering as an afterthought.

Alyssa Thomas and Angel Reese round out the tier without bumped minutes, which makes them the most predictable commodities here — reliable floors, but the ceiling upside is coming from elsewhere tonight.

02 · THE VALUE

The value section this evening is almost entirely a Chicago situation, and that's not a coincidence.

Jonquel Jones ↑NY v SEA$9.9K3642.359.14.27
DiJonai Carrington ↑CHI v PHX$4.3K2118.228.04.23

Elizabeth Williams at $5,400 is the clearest value play on the slate. She projects 30.6 with a 43.6 ceiling — 5.67 points per $1K, best in the pool — and her minutes were bumped. At that salary, 35.5 projected minutes is a lot of exposure. The floor is lower than you'd like at 17.0, so she's not a cash-game lock, but for tournaments she's a genuine differentiator.

Maddy Westbeld at the $3,000 minimum is the high-variance play. The projection is 16.5, which is fine for a minimum-salary player. The floor is 1.7. The ceiling is 32.5. Her minutes were bumped. That range is wide enough to make her a GPP-only consideration — she either contributes or she doesn't, but at $3K you can accommodate the miss.

DiJonai Carrington at $4,300 is a smaller piece — 21.2 projected minutes, 18.2 projected points — but 4.23 per $1K with bumped minutes gives her a place in builds where you need to trim salary to afford Wilson and Cardoso in the same lineup.

Wilson and Jones appear in both sections because their efficiency merits it. The value tier is Chicago-heavy tonight because that's where the minutes redistribution is concentrating the most addressable salary inefficiency.

03 · THE INJURY EDGE

This is the model's signature section, and tonight it's doing real work. An injury has bumped minutes for players across all three games — the model redistributes those minutes position-aware and minute-conserving, then re-runs the projections. The players below are absorbing that run.

Rhyne Howard ↑ATL v LV$9.8K3635.245.93.59
Jordin Canada ↑ATL v LV$9.4K3534.445.43.66

You already know about Wilson, Stewart, Cardoso, and Jones from the anchor section. The two names here that haven't been featured yet: Rhyne Howard and Jordin Canada, both on ATL against LV.

Howard at $9,800 projects 35.2 with a 45.9 ceiling. Canada at $9,400 projects 34.4 with a 45.4 ceiling. Both had minutes bumped. Both are mid-range salaries with legitimate ceilings, playing in a game that also features A'ja Wilson — which means if you're building an LV-ATL game stack, you're working with Wilson on one side and an Atlanta backcourt that just absorbed more usage on the other. That's a coherent correlation structure for a tournament build.

The honest thing to say about the injury edge: this is where the model earns its keep. Walk-forward validation shows it beats the naive per-game average baselines out of sample — that edge largely comes from correctly repricing players when minutes shift. These six players are tonight's redistribution beneficiaries.

04 · THE BUILD

On a three-game slate, you want exposure to all three games but correlation doing its job inside each one. Here's how the pieces fit together.

The anchor decision is between paying for Wilson ($12,500) or going Stewart + Cardoso ($11,700 + $9,200). Wilson's projection is highest and her value per $1K is strong given the salary — she's the cleaner single-anchor build. Stewart and Cardoso together cost you more cap but give you two bumped-minutes studs projecting north of 44 points each. Both paths are defensible; the tradeoff is punt depth versus dual-anchor upside.

The Chicago stack is where you get the most out of your remaining salary. Cardoso is the anchor of it. Layer in Williams at $5,400 — she's at 5.67 points per $1K with bumped minutes, 35.5 projected minutes — and you've got a genuine two-piece stack that doesn't cost you the earth. Westbeld at $3,000 and Carrington at $4,300 are GPP-only add-ons depending on how much salary you need to free up.

The NY game gives you the Stewart-Jones pairing. Jones's ceiling (59.1) shades Stewart's (58.0) at $1,800 less salary, which makes the salary-adjusted case for Jones compelling in tournaments. In cash, Stewart's floor (32.4 vs. 25.5) is the better bet.

The ATL game stack in tournaments: Wilson on one side, Howard and Canada on the other, absorbing the redistributed minutes. It's a game-stack structure where an A'ja explosion and an Atlanta run can coexist in a winning lineup.

On a three-game slate, avoid loading up a single game so heavily that you're dead if that one goes sideways. Spread the exposure, tilt toward the bumped-minutes plays at their respective price points, and let the volatility work for you in GPP formats.

05 · THE BOTTOM LINE

Tonight's slate was already interesting with three competitive matchups across the league's top markets — and then the injury news hit and made it genuinely compelling for DFS construction. The model's projections are walk-forward validated, beating naive baselines out of sample with an MAE of 7.01 versus 7.08; the floor and ceiling figures reflect each player's own measured production volatility across 5,000 Monte Carlo draws, not a generic range. What that means practically: Wilson's 70.3 ceiling is a real number grounded in her own variance, not a wish. Cardoso at 4.83 points per $1K with 36 projected minutes is a real inefficiency, not a rounding error. The Chicago value stack — Williams, Westbeld, Carrington — exists because minutes got redistributed and the salary site didn't fully reprice it. That's the edge. Find it, build around it, and don't overcomplicaite a slate that's already doing most of the work for you.
