NFL GAME PREVIEW
Monday Night FootballChicago’s protection problem. Philadelphia’s Showdown choice.
Eagles–Bears starts with a changed quarterback room. Here’s the matchup read, the $49,300 Smith-Captain lineup, and the Barkley alternative.

Tonight in 60 seconds
- Winner lean: Philadelphia. Chicago’s protection is the matchup to attack, even before accounting for its quarterback change.
- Spread: Eagles -3.5 at -112 is a lean, not a measured model edge. I prefer the football case to the extra half-point beyond three. A move to -3 would improve the price condition.
- Total: pass at 41.5. A slower Eagles game and Chicago’s pressure problem support a lower-scoring script, but short fields could undo it.
- Showdown: Smith at Captain, Hurts alongside him. The complete $49,300 lineup and an alternative are below.

Chicago needs a plan that survives the first pass rush.
The Bears’ quarterback question gets the headline. The more useful question is what happens after the snap. Through two games, Chicago allowed pressure on 45.6% of dropbacks; Philadelphia generated it on 35.4%. Those are separate measures, not percentages to add together. They point toward the same problem: Chicago cannot build the night around long-developing plays and expect protection to hold.
Caleb Williams is out. Tyson Bagent has cleared concussion protocol, but clearance is not the same thing as an announced starting assignment: Chicago also prepared Case Keenum during the week. I’m keeping the Bears quarterback spot out of the primary Showdown build until that decision is explicit.
The counterargument is worth taking seriously. Chicago’s offense produced explosive gains on 24.3% of its plays through Week 2, versus Philadelphia’s 14.7%. The Bears have shown a way to shorten drives. The question is how much of that carries over with a different quarterback. A few successful quick throws or one missed tackle can change a game that otherwise favors Philadelphia.
For Philadelphia, the first decision is how to buy the touchdowns.
The Eagles have moved at 30.3 seconds per play through Week 2, compared with Chicago’s 28.8. A Philadelphia lead could reduce possessions rather than create a passing shootout. That makes it dangerous to treat every good Eagles player as a simultaneous ceiling play.
Smith and Barkley have been cleared for Monday. Goedert and Hollywood Brown are out. My first build buys a Smith receiving ceiling and pairs it with Hurts. The alternative buys Barkley’s rushing finish and the Eagles defense. Both can fit an Eagles win; they are different explanations of how the fantasy points get there.
I’m not plugging an inexpensive tight end into Goedert’s old workload by name alone. Johnny Mundt is listed first on the latest depth chart, while Zach Ertz’s possible elevation and readiness need confirmation. Blocking snaps and receiving routes are different jobs. A cheap salary helps only if the player has a plausible way to score.
The Showdown lineup I’d start with.
DraftKings Captain Mode · $49,300 used · $700 remaining. One Captain plus five FLEX players. Captain salary and scoring are both multiplied by 1.5. Slate 153790, PHI @ CHI.
| Slot | Player | Salary |
|---|---|---|
| CPT | DeVonta Smith | $15,900 |
| FLEX | Jalen Hurts | $10,800 |
| FLEX | D'Andre Swift | $9,600 |
| FLEX | Dontayvion Wicks | $4,400 |
| FLEX | Kalif Raymond | $3,800 |
| FLEX | Jake Elliott | $4,800 |
DeVonta Smith: The Captain bet is a concentrated Philadelphia passing game. With Goedert and Hollywood Brown out, Smith is the established receiver I want getting the 1.5× points.
Jalen Hurts: Pair the receiver Captain with his quarterback. A Smith touchdown can score for both; Hurts also has a separate rushing path.
D'Andre Swift: Chicago’s answer to pressure can begin on the ground. Swift handled four of five Bears RB carries inside the five through Week 2.
Dontayvion Wicks: At $4,400, he lets us keep the expensive quarterback–receiver pairing. Brown’s absence removes a competitor, though it does not promise Wicks every vacated route.
Kalif Raymond: The $3,800 return keeps exposure to Chicago’s passing game without paying for a Bears quarterback whose starting assignment remains unsettled. His listed slot role is the appeal, not an invented target projection.
Jake Elliott: At $4,800, he fits the version where Philadelphia moves the ball but some possessions finish with field goals. Too many Eagles touchdowns would make this roster spot less efficient.
This is a game-script build, not a claim that we have solved the tournament. Its biggest tradeoff is leaving out Barkley: if he owns Philadelphia’s touchdowns, the Smith Captain lineup can lose even when our winner lean is right. Swift and Raymond give Chicago two routes to useful production, but neither removes the uncertainty created by a new starting quarterback.
If your story is Barkley and the defense, build that story.
Alternative: $48,800 used · $1,200 remaining.
| Slot | Player | Salary |
|---|---|---|
| CPT | Saquon Barkley | $15,000 |
| FLEX | Jalen Hurts | $10,800 |
| FLEX | D'Andre Swift | $9,600 |
| FLEX | Dontayvion Wicks | $4,400 |
| FLEX | Eagles | $5,200 |
| FLEX | Kalif Raymond | $3,800 |
This version swaps Smith and Elliott for Barkley at Captain and Philadelphia’s defense. It needs Philadelphia to control field position, force difficult dropbacks and finish drives on the ground. Hurts stays in because he can contribute without a huge passing total. Swift can still be useful before Chicago falls behind; Raymond is the affordable return.
Do not call the alternative a leverage lineup just because it looks different. We do not have verified current-slate ownership or contest-entry data for this edition. The reason to use it is that you believe its script, not an unsupported claim that nobody else will.
The props worth examining—and where I’m drawing the line.
Hurts’ rushing line is 23.5 yards, with the Over -116. His legs are relevant to the Philadelphia scoring story, but sacks, designed runs and scrambles are different inputs. I’m not converting a preferred winner into an automatic rushing Over without a current distribution.
Wicks is 40.5 receiving yards at -112 on either side; his reception line is 3.5, Over +128 and Under -164. Brown’s absence makes the opportunity worth following, but those prices are already asking you to pay for a receiving role. Wicks can be a useful $4,400 DFS fit without his Over being a supported standalone bet.
Swift’s rushing line is 61.5, Over -110 and Under -114. His inside-the-five work is useful for touchdown and Showdown decisions; it does not, by itself, establish that he will clear a yardage total. I want the Bears’ starting quarterback and play-calling plan settled before taking that position.
These are current comparisons, not issued prop recommendations. The forecast service is being repaired; this edition does not substitute made-up means, hit rates or ownership numbers for missing projections.
What would change the lineup before kickoff?
Check the confirmed Bears starter, Philadelphia’s tight-end activations and the official inactive lists. Williams, Goedert and Hollywood Brown are excluded. Do not mistake a player being present in the DraftKings pool for him being available.
The kickoff-hour Soldier Field forecast is about 64°F, with wind near 7 mph and no rain in that hour. That is not enough evidence for a weather-driven passing downgrade. The forecast is a stadium-area estimate; gusts and field-level conditions remain unverified.
Keep Smith at Captain only if his pregame availability remains unchanged. If you pivot to Barkley at Captain, use the complete alternative above rather than changing one slot and accidentally breaking the salary cap. If Chicago names its starter, a quarterback stack becomes an alternative to examine—not an instruction to squeeze both quarterbacks into every lineup.
