CARD
Two Big Totals, One Dark Card, and a 15-Game Friday
The model found double-digit run totals in Washington and Cincinnati while the moneyline side stayed quiet. Nothing cleared the card minimum — here's what we're tracking and how to deploy it in DFS.

THE READ
The sharpest signal on this Friday slate isn't a moneyline — it's two totals sitting well below where the model thinks the run environments should land. WSH @ STL is posted at 7.5; the model has it at 10.1. CHC @ CIN is posted at 8.5; the model says 11.1. Those are the kind of gaps that tend to generate conversation, and in this case they're driving real lineup decisions in DFS even if they aren't pushing a side onto the card.
Fifteen games on a Friday night in September means a full main slate with plenty of room to be selective. With 171 of 216 hitters still projected rather than confirmed, lineup flexibility cuts both ways — the values we're leaning on today could look different at first pitch. Check back at lock.
MODEL vs MARKET
No moneyline edges cleared our 5-percentage-point bar tonight. The totals side is a different story.
WSH @ STL — Over 7.5: The model projects 10.1 runs, a 14.2-point edge with a 65.3% over probability. That is a meaningful disagreement with the posted number. This is a tracked lean, not an official play — no money is on it.
CHC @ CIN — Over 8.5: The model projects 11.1 runs, a 13.7-point edge with a 63.7% over probability. Great American Ball Park in 81-degree heat with wind crossing to right field adds a mild run-environment boost on top of the model's standalone projection. Also a tracked lean only.
Both edges clear the 10-point bar comfortably. Both are on the board as tracked edges. Neither has money behind it tonight — that distinction matters, and we'll get to why in the next section.
THE CARD
The card is dark tonight. No side cleared our minimum qualifying threshold for an official staked play, and we're not manufacturing one to fill the space.
The two totals in the model-vs-market section are tracked edges — they're on the board, we believe the gap is real, and they're informing our DFS construction. But tracked edges and official plays are different things. A model total of 10.1 against a line of 7.5 is worth following; it isn't automatically worth staking. The card reflects that distinction.
Dark cards are part of the record. A 15-game Friday slate where the sharpest plays are in DFS rather than the sportsbook is a useful outcome, not a failure.
DFS CORE
The standout value on today's board is Rafael Devers ($2,000, SF vs. LAD) — 7.4 projected points at that price is the best value-per-$1K on the slate at 3.7, and his ceiling touches 16. He's still projected rather than confirmed, so treat that salary as contingent on lineup posting. At minimum price, any confirmed start makes him a near-lock in cash.
Jahmai Jones ($2,400, BOS vs. TB) is the best confirmed value in this group — lineup is in, opponent is Ian Seymour, and 7.0 projected points with a 16.1 ceiling at that salary is quietly excellent. Petey Halpin ($2,400, CLE vs. OAK) is also confirmed against Mason Barnett and slots cleanly into CLE stacks. Steven Kwan ($3,800) anchors the cash floor from the same game — confirmed, 8.1 projected, 1.9 floor, against the same arm.
Note: 171 of 216 hitters are still projected. Lock-time lineups may shift salaries and confirm or remove several names below.
| Hitter | Team | Pos | Salary | Proj | Ceil |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Rafael Devers * | SF | 1B | $2.0K | 7.4 | 16.0 |
| Christian Moore * | LAA | 2B | $2.2K | 6.5 | 15.2 |
| Jahmai Jones | BOS | DH | $2.4K | 7.0 | 16.1 |
| Petey Halpin | CLE | CF | $2.4K | 6.8 | 15.1 |
| Abimelec Ortiz * | WSH | 1B | $2.6K | 6.7 | 15.1 |
| Austin Wells * | NYY | C | $2.4K | 6.2 | 15.2 |
| Nathan Church * | STL | CF | $2.9K | 7.3 | 16.1 |
| Pitcher | Team | Salary | Proj | xK | Win% |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Daniel Espino | CLE | $5.5K | 20.4 | 7.8 | 69% |
| Cam Schlittler | NYY | $11.0K | 19.7 | 7.0 | 54% |
| Dylan Cease | TOR | $11.3K | 18.6 | 7.1 | 49% |
| Joe Ryan | MIN | $9.1K | 17.4 | 6.7 | 49% |
On the pitching side, Daniel Espino ($5,500, CLE) is the standout at 20.4 projected points with a 69.1% win probability against OAK — and he pairs naturally with the CLE stack. Cam Schlittler ($11,000, NYY) projects second at 19.7 but with a near-coin-flip 53.9% win probability against ARI; the ceiling is real, but so is the variance at full ace salary. Dylan Cease ($11,300, TOR vs. TEX) projects 18.6 points with a 49.3% win probability — essentially a toss-up, which makes that price hard to justify in cash.
THE STACK
The optimizer's top build is a CLE 4-batter + STL 3-batter combination at $49,200 in projected salary, projecting 106.8 points with a cash-game floor of 106.7. That is a remarkably tight spread between projected and cash floor, which reflects the high floor bats in both stacks.
| Stack | Bats | Proj pts | Ceiling | Salary | Env |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| CLE vs OAK | 4 | 36.7 | 73.2 | $17.0K | 0.80× |
| SEA vs COL | 4 | 36.3 | 74.4 | $21.2K | 1.30× |
| LAD vs SF | 4 | 33.9 | 69.6 | $19.7K | 1.10× |
| MIL vs BAL | 4 | 33.8 | 68.5 | $19.3K | 1.00× |
| PHI vs NYM | 4 | 32.2 | 66.8 | $19.0K | 0.90× |
Cleveland vs. OAK leads the individual stack board at 36.7 projected points, a 73.2 ceiling, and an Env of 0.8 — not the highest park factor here, but Espino's win probability and Barnett's opposing profile make this the highest-confidence combination on the slate. The confirmed starters (Ramirez, Halpin, Kwan) give you a real floor to build around.
Seattle vs. COL is the upside stack. The Coors environment (Env 1.3, the highest on today's weather list) and a 74.4 ceiling make this the leverage play in large-field GPPs — Cal Raleigh and Randy Arozarena supply the ceiling, though both are currently projected rather than confirmed. If those lineups post cleanly, SEA at $21,200 becomes the differentiated GPP structure worth building around.
WEATHER & PARKS
The two parks most worth noting tonight are Houston and Arlington.
| Game | Park | Wind | HR× | Runs× |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ATL @ HOU | HOU | 7 mph out to CF | 1.30× | 1.10× |
| TOR @ TEX | TEX | 8 mph crossing to LF | 1.20× | 1.10× |
| MIN @ LAA | LAA | 8 mph out to CF | 1.20× | 1.10× |
| CHC @ CIN | CIN | 8 mph crossing to RF | 1.10× | 1.10× |
| KC @ PIT | PIT | calm | 1.10× | 1.00× |
| SEA @ COL | COL | 8 mph crossing to RF | 1.10× | 1.00× |
ATL @ HOU: The Minute Maid roof is listed as likely open tonight at 82.6 degrees with 7 mph blowing out to center. That combination produces an HR factor of 1.3 and a runs factor of 1.1 — the highest HR environment on the slate. If the roof stays open at game time, this is a game to watch for bat-stack exposure around the ATL and HOU lineups.
TOR @ TEX: Globe Life Field at 93.9 degrees is the hottest park on the board tonight, with a 1.2 HR factor and runs factor of 1.1. The roof situation at TEX can shift, so confirm open-air status closer to first pitch. Dylan Cease pitches here — the heat and park factor are worth holding in mind against his 49.3% win probability. MIN @ LAA also carries a 1.2 HR factor with 8 mph genuinely blowing out to center (7.7 mph out component), the most favorable wind direction in the data set.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Highest-conviction angle No. 1 — the WSH/STL run environment: A 2.6-run gap between the model total and the posted line is the largest disagreement on the slate. Whether or not you play the total, it's a signal to stack STL bats. Nathan Church and Abimelec Ortiz both project well in a game the model sees as significantly higher-scoring than the market does. Church is projected rather than confirmed; Ortiz is also projected — lineup confirmation before lock matters here.
Highest-conviction angle No. 2 — Espino + CLE stack as the backbone: A confirmed starter projecting 20.4 points at $5,500 with a 69.1% win probability is the clearest value on the pitching board by a real margin. Building CLE around Espino — with Ramirez, Halpin, and Kwan as the confirmed hitter base — gives you both a strong floor and the highest ceiling on today's stack list. That combination is why the optimizer's top build runs through Cleveland.
